Description

Job Position: Café Supervisor
Hours: Thursday to Sunday mornings / Wednesday evenings
Wage: $18 - $20 per hour
Location: Downtown Chicago

Job Summary
As one of Food for Thought Café supervisors, you will perform hands-on supervision at all levels of our café operation, including training staff, maintaining health and safety procedures, resolving customer issues, and taking initiative to build a foundational relationship with our client.

You will work in collaboration with the General Manager to create unit-specific strategic plans for the front of the house and oversee all café staff in the absence of the General Manager, ensuring that the Food for Thought high quality standards are consistently met.

Responsibilities
  • Preparing and managing schedules for hourly employees.
  • Participating in all kitchen and service duties as necessary.
  • Holding all café staff accountable for established standards.
  • Reconciling cash drawers and auditing cash amounts in safe.
  • Assembling cash deposits.
  • Participating in budget preparations.
  • Tracking necessary financial data and reports to corporate liaisons.
  • Being flexible to work all shifts including special events.
Required Qualifications
  • +3 years of experience in Food Service supervisory roles.
  • Basic working knowledge of the fundamentals of cooking, kitchen equipment operation, safety, and sanitation.
  • Basic mathematical skills to understand recipes, measurements, requisition amounts, and portion sizes. As well as principles of business finance, cost of goods percentages, accounting principles, tracking cash, etc.
  • Effective communication skills to collaborate with other team members.
  • Effective organizational skills to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of business computing systems and ability to learn new systems.
  • Proficiency in professional business communications.
  • Must provide a valid Food handler or Food Service Manager Certificate.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is continuously exposed to extreme temperatures. Working with knives, mincers, and other dangerous tools or equipment.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk, hear, move, reach, grab, and stand for long periods of time. As well as stooping, kneeling, crouching, and climbing ladders.
